Speaker: Diane Welborn, Ombudsman Ombudsman Diane Welborn will inform attendees about the work of the Ombudsman and her staff to advocate on behalf of the residents of Montgomery County, residents of long-term care facilities and assisted living facilities. Your Ombudsman office is unique in its broad jurisdiction and ability to assist our fellow citizens with a wide range of problems, concerns and questions. Ombudsman Welborn will discuss trends in citizen complaints, how the Ombudsman achieves resolution of those complaints, and the impact the Ombudsman’s office makes on improving the fairness of government actions with citizens.

Diane Welborn has been the Ombudsman of Dayton and Montgomery County since 1999. Prior to being appointed as Ombudsman, she worked at Dwight Hall of Yale University and as the Membership Program Director for Amnesty International in the USA. She received the Master’s degree from the University of Chicago, School of Social Service Administration. She has served as Treasurer and Vice-President of the United States Ombudsman Association, an association of 135 Ombudsman. She is currently the Vice-President of the International Ombudsman Institute, an association of over 200 Ombudsman offices worldwide. She produces the weekly “Ombudsman Column” in the Dayton Daily News; a monthly television program on Dayton Access Television, and a “Weekly Update” of Ombudsman activities with a distribution of over 350. She has made presentations at annual U. S. Ombudsman Association conferences, at the International Ombudsman Institute Conferences, and at the United Nations. In addition to her work as Ombudsman, Ms. Welborn is a member of the Leadership Council of the Miami Valley Presbytery, Chair of the Dayton Rotary Club of Dayton International Service Project Committee, and founding board member of the Five Rivers Health Center. She is married to her high-school sweetheart, Dr. Larry Welborn, Professor of New Testament and Early Christian Literature at Fordham University.
