President’s Holiday Message: December can be magical, and at times, challenging as it may trigger memories associated with the season from years long past. As you know, there are numerous religious holidays and holy days
associated with December that reflect the beliefs of Christians,Jews, Buddhists, Muslims and Atheists who celebrate Winter Solstice. Regardless of our heart-felt beliefs, we find ourselves recalling special experiences associated with the season and month of December. How many of us have taken a child to experience the Nutcracker Ballet or a special holiday music program or to visit Santa? I recall going to see the Holiday parade in Dayton as a child and then taking my own child and later my grandchild to watch it. Have you ever been to Rockefeller Center to experience the Rockettes or observe the ice skaters at the accompanying rink? Have your ever cut down a live tree to grace your home for the season? Did you ever go caroling? What was your own favorite holiday gift as a child? When I asked my husband, he quickly mentioned the toy train he received at age 6, while I recall the year I received my last doll. Games, books and clothes were often received or exchanged by friends or family. Many of us also spent time in places of worship practicing the rituals of our respective faiths. It is also a time of giving special donations for the needs of our community and for visiting old friends and perhaps celebrating new ones. My own precious memory of the season is the engagement ring my husband-to-be placed on my finger during midnight mass. Whatever our beliefs, the month of December evokes special memories of the past along with the excitement of the possibilities this December holds for each of us. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very wonderful and blessed Christmas and a most Happy New Year!
Ann
(Ann Wolf, President)
