Jen Burns is the founder and executive director of Access to Excess. She works toward a more just food system by developing efficient donation systems for surplus food.
Access to Excess is a food-rescue nonprofit working to keep wholesome food from going to waste. It finds surplus food, coordinates pickups, and re-distributes excess produce and other food items to Dayton communities that lack access to healthy options.
Access to Excess focuses on food recovery at all points across the food supply chain including surplus from home growers, farmers, food businesses, and restaurants. The organization uses several distribution methods to keep good food from going bad such as a free produce stand, free hot soups & bread to-go, and neighborhood share partners that offer programs in our community.
